New computer mouse

I've just had to retire my computer mouse despite my valiant attempts to soldier on with the old and with Teresa promising to bring an old one from school, I went and purchased one from my usual shop (I have a slight difference of opinion with them at present).

My mouse was slowing me down and causing my artritis to flare up in my right hand, normally only a really big week of work does that, but with all the excessive side scraping to get it to work inflamed my hand.

They no longer do ball ones , so I got a cheap opticalone. I cannot believe the difference a cheetah against a snail, a couch potato compared to a sprinter. I cannot believe how much mouse technology has moved on, my mouse is accurate to 1000dpi (dots per inch) gaming mice are accurate to 4000dpi and they are laser mice and during my reading I discovered that gaming mice have weights that can change the balance of the mouse this made me think of the swords used by knights in time past who selecteda sword on its weight and balance. Except the difference is knights charged around doing things, having a life getting exercise making a difference, gamers just play games and let life slip them by, a bit sad really.

I wonder what sort of mouse technology will be available when I next buy a mouse in 5 or so years time.

I'm back

I've been quite sick, still working very hard and on top of that I've had computer issues that are still not fully resolved. I've had the computer completely wiped and I am reinstalling software.

During this time I've carried out something I've wanted to do for ages and that is start moving away from using microsoft software as it just isn't reliable enough and as a lot of my computer issues have been caused by said software. I have been using Mozilla firebird for quite a time because of the web standards issue, I have ditched Outlook for email (although I will miss the calendar and task side of things) in favour of Mozilla Thunderbird (they are working on a similar software as Outlook codenamed Lightning). I'm replacing the rest of office with openoffice which is a free software and after a trial I'll decide whether to keep and make a donation. One of the key tests is how compatible it is with office because most people use office and we have a lot of documents we will need to swap over.

The last step will be to eventually swap windows for linux.

ps - absolutely no training to report on and being without the computer for 2 days was great.

Caught out by cheap software

As the title says I was caught out by buying cheap software. It was an online reseller. It was so much cheaper than the buying the same software from the official supplier I ha suscpision (spelling??) right from the start but the bargain hunter in me won. It was a lesson learned that cost me about $200US. It was fulll of bugs didn't install correctly wouldn't uninstall so I could install a full cost version.

I am annoyed with myself because I hate wasting money- I had the money saved for the upgrade of the software (it is for business), I had to get a technician out who couldn't solve the problem of the uninstall and wanted to take the computer in for a couple of days (I have some deadlines looming).

However after the tech went away without the computer (this all happened Friday)I was going to drop it in next Tuesday but I was prompted by something he said. I went onlione and found some uninstall software (free version) and that did the job. I installed the new software, worked out how to mySQL databases server running again (for testing my work) and I was away.
