New computer mouse

I've just had to retire my computer mouse despite my valiant attempts to soldier on with the old and with Teresa promising to bring an old one from school, I went and purchased one from my usual shop (I have a slight difference of opinion with them at present).

My mouse was slowing me down and causing my artritis to flare up in my right hand, normally only a really big week of work does that, but with all the excessive side scraping to get it to work inflamed my hand.

They no longer do ball ones , so I got a cheap opticalone. I cannot believe the difference a cheetah against a snail, a couch potato compared to a sprinter. I cannot believe how much mouse technology has moved on, my mouse is accurate to 1000dpi (dots per inch) gaming mice are accurate to 4000dpi and they are laser mice and during my reading I discovered that gaming mice have weights that can change the balance of the mouse this made me think of the swords used by knights in time past who selecteda sword on its weight and balance. Except the difference is knights charged around doing things, having a life getting exercise making a difference, gamers just play games and let life slip them by, a bit sad really.

I wonder what sort of mouse technology will be available when I next buy a mouse in 5 or so years time.

Weekly training 30June-6July

Feeling tired and fed up this weekend the children have been tiring me out especially Cameron with his constant questions. Saturday I didn't stop doing jobs around the house, Teresa went to bed in the afternoon because the school term has just finished and all the exhaustion from all the hard work she puts in and all I can think is I want her to leave teaching. I am very disillusioned about teaching and schools in general. On top of this I am reading the 'Four Hour work week' by Tim Ferriss which is building on my frustration and making me disatisfied. Don't get me wrong my life is generally great but I want more, I want everything, I don't want to waste my life working I never have. This book is all about lifestyle design and it is what I've always wanted to do do turn one of my ideas into reality and fund a lifestyle not by working in a business (even if it is my own) but as Ferriss says automate it by outsourcing. As all self help books say you have to take MASSIVE ACTION and at this point pressure to do so is building.
In a way I have always taken action in my life the latest to say I'm not relief teaching anymore, my actions are getting bigger. I have been a bit tense about the drop in income though. Right enough of that I did a little training.

I'm back

I've been quite sick, still working very hard and on top of that I've had computer issues that are still not fully resolved. I've had the computer completely wiped and I am reinstalling software.

During this time I've carried out something I've wanted to do for ages and that is start moving away from using microsoft software as it just isn't reliable enough and as a lot of my computer issues have been caused by said software. I have been using Mozilla firebird for quite a time because of the web standards issue, I have ditched Outlook for email (although I will miss the calendar and task side of things) in favour of Mozilla Thunderbird (they are working on a similar software as Outlook codenamed Lightning). I'm replacing the rest of office with openoffice which is a free software and after a trial I'll decide whether to keep and make a donation. One of the key tests is how compatible it is with office because most people use office and we have a lot of documents we will need to swap over.

The last step will be to eventually swap windows for linux.
Join the movement and we'll start a revolution - stop all unnecessary shopping.

ps - absolutely no training to report on and being without the computer for 2 days was great.

Why the chicken died

Sounds like the opening line to a bad joke. The vet said it was probably a prolapsed something or other which means it had a tried to lay an egg that probably had a very soft or no shell. This would have made it almost impossible to lay and it tried so hard it expelled its reproductive organs - and that is exactly what it looked like.

Teresa told the children while I was at the vets, Emily had a little cry but thats okay. We told them that Bertha was dead had died no saying she had gone away or chicken heaven because that is not what happened and would only cause problems in the future and Emily is always asking about dying.

Chicken visit to Kindergarten

Just come back from taking one of the chickens in to Cameron's kindergarten for the children to have a look at. It was supposed to be the one called choc choc but I can't tell the difference. It is surprising that although we live in a town that is a rural service centre lots of the children haven't seen a live one.

It reminds when I was teaching full time back in the UK one boy on a school camp at mealtime asked what was on his plate, indicating a chicken breast. He was told it was chicken, a whole chicken he asked. Then he commented that his chicken had a jacket on , it was of course the skin of the chicken. A lot of children these days are fed a lot of crap and of course nothing looks like anything :fish fingers, chicken nuggets (chickens don't have nuggets and fish no longer have fingers although who nows the bounty that genetic modification will bring), etc

Live, eat organically and simply

The economy and complaining

People are complaining about the ecomomy at the moment. Complaining about the price of food, petrol, etc, etc and yet they still eat expensive junk food, drive grat big fat cars, still consume beer and amazingly can still afford cigarettes. But I guess it is easy to blame the government and everybody else than take some personal responsibility and admit they financially illiterate, abuse food, cigarettes and alcohol.

I have always considered myself a socialist (I can almost hear you cringe)but socialism to me is about taking care of the weak or the needy like villagers or small communities still do, and about profit sharing. It has never been about giving handouts to lazy people who don't take any personal responsibility or contribute to society

A great post from Tim Luchinske (Lucho)

Great post from Lucho on his blog. He put my thoughts on paper (computer screen)except for the donkey bit. I very rarely comment on other people's blogs but I did this time.

This is my comment:
"I thought I was the only one who felt like this. I have a term I use 'the ugly people' and really it is nothing to do with looks although people who are grossly obsese, drink and smoke to excess generally are, it is more a reference to the way they live there lives without regard for themselves, the planet or those around them. Ugly in spirit and attitude. I find myself increasingly wanting to barricade myself and my children away from the rest of the world. We have a quarter acre and I increasingly finding myself wishing for a ranch."

But for it to make more sense read
Lucho first. Just maybe we can start a movement or revolution.

Oops

I can't help myself. I want to change the way my blog looks and naturally I wanted to see what everything does. This curiousity has helped me learn absolutely lots but sometimes my fiddling causes more work this blog is a case in point. I lost all my sidebar stuff which I was perfectly happy with. As usual I will enjoy putting it back and will benefit from the experience.
